Beginning October 7th, 2019 through October 17th, 2019, the CBMT Certificant Login will be temporarily unavailable as we transition into a new database system and prepare to launch a new website. All recertification credit totals, ethics credit totals and maintenance fee balances as of October 7th, 2019 will automatically be transferred into the new database system.
Music therapy is the specialized use of music by a credentialed professional who develops individualized treatment and supportive interventions for people of all ages and ability levels to address their social, communication, emotional, physical, cognitive, sensory and spiritual needs.
CBMT is the only organization to certify music therapists to practice music therapy nationally. Its MT-BC program has been fully accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1986. There are currently 8,495 music therapists maintaining the MT-BC credential and participating in a program of recertification designed to measure or enhance competence in the profession of music therapy.
Use of Credential Trademark Policy
The CBMT Board of Directors voted to accept a Use of Credential Trademark Policy. This policy outlines how and when a Board-Certified Music Therapist may use the “MT-BC” credential and “Music Therapist – Board Certified” designation while currently certified. Self-Assessment Examination – Form B is now available
CBMT has released a second Self-Assessment Exam (SAE) to assist exam candidates in preparing for the CBMT Exam. This second SAE contains new questions that relate to the Board Certification Domains and can be used in addition to the original Self-Assessment Examination for continued review. Board Certification Domains (2015), the outcome of the 2014 Practice Analysis Study which measured and defined current music therapy practice, is now available.
