Where can I find recertification credits?

Please visit the CBMT Approved Provider section on this website. Approved providers offer various credits. Links to their website are included on the Approved Provider list. Recertification credits do not have to be from pre-approved CMTE courses. As long as your continuing education relates to the CBMT Board Certification Domains, credits may be submitted. Please review the Recertification Manual for all of the available options.

Do I need to submit documentation when I submit my recertification credits to CBMT?

No, required documentation as outlined in the Recertification Manual, only needs to be submitted if chosen for the random audit. We suggest certificant’s compile this documentation at the time of their continuing education and keep in a documentation file at home/work.

How long do I need to keep required documentation for recertification credits?

All documentation and records must be retained for at least one year beyond the certificant’s current five-year recertification cycle.

When should I submit recertification credits?

Recertification credits can be entered and maintained on the sign-in tab as credits are completed. You may also submit the electronic form available on the Recertification tab.

How do I calculate the number of CMTE credits to submit?

Use the CMTE Credit Formula (page 13 Recertification Manual) to calculate the number of CMTE credits that may be reported. One CMTE credit is equal to 50 contact minutes.

Are there credit limits for types of credit?

Yes. These limits are outlined in the Recertification Manual under the Recertification Guidelines and are also summarized on the Summary of Recertification Credit reporting form.

Can I get credits for private lessons?

Yes. Through the mentored self-study option. 20 credits per area of the CBMT Board Certification Domains with a 60 credit maximum.

Why is there an ethics requirement?

Ethical behavior is essential for professional therapists in order to protect the public. In order to remain current in knowledge of ethical issues, continuing education in this topic is necessary. Other ICE (Institute for Credentialing Excellence) organizations have implemented or will implement a continuing education requirement in ethics and professional practice. CBMT will remain consistent with and equal to other ICE organizations by adding this requirement.

What if I get audited?

Each year CBMT conducts a random audit consisting of a percentage of the certificants who reported credits. The audit procedure is outlined on page 30 of the Recertification Manual. Required documentation, as outlined in the manual, will need to be submitted for credits on file at CBMT. If chosen for audit at the end of your current cycle, your cycle is extended through the audit.
